The History of Valentines Day

Valentine was born in Terni, in 175 AD. He devoted himself to the conversion of the pagans and the preaching of the gospel . Because of his faith, he was arrested and taken by the Emperor Claudius, who tried to convince him to return to the pagan faith. San Valentin was not dissuaded, but he's still a good impression to the Emperor who entrusted it to a Roman nobleman.

Legend says that the daughter of the noble regained his sight thanks to a miracle of the saint, and that after the miracle the whole family converted to Christianity. Following their example, many Roman nobles abandoned paganism to the new religion.

It is also said that Valentine had much to heart lovers who found in him a trusted friend and a good counselor. Apparently that was the Santo to celebrate the first marriage between a pagan and a Christian.

Valentine did not survive to a second arrest, during the persecutions of the Emperor Aurelian, and was martyred in 273 AD.
